Formlessness (Core course, Lesson #11) - 10th November 2022, 7-9pm GMT
Free verse (what I call ‘Formlessness’) is the art of writing poetry without a strict pre-set form; often misunderstood, many take free verse for granted as easier or less restrictive than form. But in this class we put illusions aside; you will learn about the craft behind it, about the freedom it offers, and you will practice the improvisation skills you will need to write it.
A companion class to ‘Form’ but also a great standalone class for any poet looking to learn the basics of free verse.
What will happen in this class:
- A discussion about ‘free verse’ and what it means to us
- A lecture covering: what free verse is, some examples of free verse, tips and advice on writing free verse.
- An exercise, guiding you through writing a free verse poem.
When you register for an online class you will be added to the list of registrants. Classes take place live on Zoom; the day before your class you will be sent a link to your registered Zoom meeting, which you can follow to join the class. Remember to check your Junk folder.
All Zoom sessions will be recorded. After a class or workshop, registrants will be emailed a link to the recording. If you are unable to attend a session for which you have registered, you will still be able to watch the recorded session at your convenience.
