Sound (Core course, Lesson #05) - 29th September 2022, 7-9pm GMT

Sound is an essential dimension of any poem; sound doesn’t just mean rhyme and rhythm, but every way in which words delight, assail, or direct the ear.

An informative and practical introduction to using sound in poetry, great for beginners and for any poet who wants to improve their technical skills with sound.

What will happen in this class:

  • A lecture covering: what is meant by ‘sound’ in a poem, the relationship between sound and sense, practical advice on using sound.
  • Three short exercises practicing your attention to sound, your ability to express sound, and your intuition for rhyme and rhythm.

When you register for an online class you will be added to the list of registrants. Classes take place live on Zoom; the day before your class you will be sent a link to your registered Zoom meeting, which you can follow to join the class. Remember to check your Junk folder.

All Zoom sessions will be recorded. After a class or workshop, registrants will be emailed a link to the recording. If you are unable to attend a session for which you have registered, you will still be able to watch the recorded session at your convenience.
