#09 Statement

Statement (Core course, Lesson #09)

‘What’s that over there?’, ‘It’s a dinosaur.’, ‘Oh no!’, ‘Run.’

Statements can be broadly classified into types: declarative, interrogative, imperative, exclamative. These are what communication (and poems) are made of. An accessible but deep dive into linguistics, this class helps you understand the core building blocks in your poet’s toolkit, what effects they have, and how you can use them.

A great class for beginners who are starting to look more closely at language, or for any poet looking to gain more control over their writing.

What is included in this class:

  • A lecture covering four types of statement with examples from various poems, how they work and what they achieve.
    • Pack contains 1. a recording of the original lecture, 2. a copy of the lecture presentation and 3. the transcribed text.
  • Writing exercises: four exercises, one to explore each statement type.

This is a downloadable class, you will receive links to download your digital learning resources in the thank you page of the checkout, along with an emailed link that will last for 30 days.
