Blank Space (Core course, Lesson #07)
Visual art has ‘figure and ground’, music has ‘sound and silence’, poetry has words and blank space, and all these pairs work together to make a whole. In this class, learn about blank space and how to use it.
Blank Space is a perfect companion to The Line (Lesson #06) but it’s also a great standalone class, for beginners and for any poet who wants to get more out of blank space.
What is included in this class:
- A lecture covering: why poems have blank space, things you can do with blank space, examples of how poets have used blank space and the effects they have achieved.
- Pack contains 1. a recording of the original lecture, 2. a copy of the lecture presentation and 3. the transcribed text.
- Writing exercises: two exercises exploring how to use blank space. One of these exercises involves redrafting a piece of your own work, so have one of your own poems prepared and ready to edit.
This is a downloadable class, you will receive links to download your digital learning resources in the thank you page of the checkout, along with an emailed link that will last for 30 days.
