Develop your poetry with personalised one-to-one (online) tuition from award-winning poet, mentor and PhD in Poetics, Cat Woodward.
Each session is shaped around you. Together, we'll explore your poems, discuss the challenges you're facing, and identify practical ways to develop your craft. Sessions might focus on close readings of your work, approaches to redrafting, good practice techniques, and deep dives into any aspects of poetry you'd like to explore. You’ll also have the opportunity to discuss submissions, manuscripts or future projects.
Unlike a written critique, a tutorial gives you the opportunity to ask questions, test ideas, and receive immediate, personalised guidance in a supportive and encouraging environment. A regular meet up with a trusted tutor can help you stay on target with your writing goals, keeping you focussed and, importantly, keeping you writing.
One-to-one tuition is ideal if you:
- would like regular support or ‘check-in’s as you develop your poetry
- prefer to have an engaging discussion about your poems and process
- would benefit from having a mentor to help build your writing confidence
- are doing a creative writing course or degree and would like some extra help
- are interested in all the other things around writing – good practice, generating ideas, writing confidence, publishing, submissions, managing a poetry project…
How it works
After booking, I'll contact you to arrange a convenient time for our online session. If appropriate, I'll invite you to send your poems in advance, so I can read them carefully beforehand, allowing us to make the most of our time together. A session lasts one hour and the price includes my preparation time.
Each tutorial is tailored to your individual needs, ensuring you leave with practical ideas, clear goals, and renewed confidence about where to take your writing next.
While my specialism is writing poetry, I'm also open to tutoring prose-writers, and to helping Arts and Humanities students with essay-writing as well.
