What is tuition?
In a tuition session you work with me face-to face to discuss your work, overcome difficulties, solve problems, get advice, and receive motivation and encouragement. A tuition session includes a 1-hour live meeting online or in person at a time that suits you, plus my prep time. Tuition also includes written feedback on a limited amount of work, which will be discussed as relevant.
One-to-one tuition is especially helpful for anyone who:
- would like regular, personal, reliable support with their writing or study
- wants to develop their skills, but doesn’t have a defined work in progress yet
- benefits from frequent check-ins to keep them motivated, encouraged and on-track
- would like to improve their writing and practice but would prefer not to attend classes or workshops
I help creative writers maintain a regular writing habit, get inspired, improve technical skills, develop creative practice, edit and problem-solve, find their voice and style, and achieve personal writing goals. While my specialism is poetry, I tutor prose-writers as well.
I also help students with study skills, essay-writing, editing, independent projects, prioritisation and workload management, presentations, applications and proposals. These skills are useful in any discipline, but I specialise in English Literature and Creative Writing.
How does it work?
First, register for a tuition session. I'll be in touch by email to discuss what help you need and what support I can offer. You may submit samples of your work at this time. Together we’ll arrange a session at a time and date that suits you, and go from there. Sessions usually take place on Google Meet or in person if you’re local to Norwich, but other platforms can be used if preferred.
Students and writers get the most benefit from taking a sequence of tuition sessions regularly. How often you have your session is up to you. To pre-book more than one session at a time, just order the number of sessions you would like at checkout.
