Learn the art of poetic storytelling. This short course draws on classic narrative poems such as Metamorphosis, Beowulf, Paradise Lost, The Kalevala, The Raven, Endymion, The Rime of the Ancient Mariner...all the way to the contemporary narratives of poets such as Alice Oswald, Jane Burn, Moniza Alvi and A.B. Jackson.
 
Inspired by these texts, learn core principles of narrative writing and how to apply them. Learn what distinguishes a poem’s narrative from a prose narrative, explore framing and structuring devices, use personas and dialogue, and try episodic writing. This course encourages you to flex your imagination and express yourself in new ways; it will give you the toolkit you need to tell your own stories or adapt old stories in your own new and exciting way.
